FAQ’s

Text Box: Why does my keypad say COMM FAIL /TROUBLE?
Communication (COMM. FAIL/ TROUBLE) means that the phone line had an interruption. The interruption could be: phone company, cable provider, or due to bad weather. You can refer to your users guide to test your system & call the central station to verify if a signal was received. If you need further assistance call our service department.
Cell back up devices can also have COMM FAILL / TROUBLE condition—when this happens Central Station will call your home to notify you. When you get this call please call SDC to set up a service call.
The smokes & carbon monoxide detectors are going off, but are not showing up on the keypad
Customer’s often have 110 smoke detectors which are installed by electricians. Due to state laws Security Design can not tie in electrician installed smokes into your existing alarm system.
Carbon monoxide detectors have a life of five years. After five years in many cases when the CO detector is failing it will not show up on the keypad. Currently the newer CO models do have a trouble sensor for trouble detection.
What happens when the power goes out?
When your electrical power goes out a few things will happen. Your alarm system will then switch to battery back up. The Central Station will try to reach you at your home number in an event of a power outage. You will be alerted to this by a beeping noise coming from your key pad. You also may notice the “low battery” or “LB” will appear be on the keypad. The battery will last for a limited time.
Who should go on my call list ?
When you create your call list , a few things to keep in mind:
The Central Station will always call the home 1st when a burglary alarm is tripped this is to eliminate false alarms & if there is no response from the home number & a call to the authorities is placed, then the call list is used.
As for fire systems depending on your town’s fire department guidelines will guide the Central Station notification process. Fire department in many cases is notified when event takes place.
We recommend that you use cell numbers, because alarms can happen anytime, sometimes work numbers can only be used at specific times of the day.
Neighbors, caretakers, or house managers can also be on the call list.
As always remember that anyone on the call list should be aware of their password & keypad code for your system. Whether it is one family password & keypad code or several passwords & keypad codes for your neighbors & staff.
